My goal is to capture who your family is right now, not to make you do anything stiff or unnatural.
So you booked your session. Now what?
I am excited to capture you and your loved ones. Custom photography is unique because it not only captures what you look like at a certain point in time, it captures who you are. I aim to capture honest photos of your family and children. The goal is not to get a stiff and posed shot with everyone looking at the camera, but to capture the true essence of your family. I take a documentary approach to photography and use my understanding of my equipment and natural light to create images that will become works of art that you can hang in your home and pass down for generations. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.
"We often look forward to our future with big dreams and anticipations. But when we meet our children for the first time — everything else seems meaningless."
Location: All newborn session take place in the comfort of your home. Many clients prefer their home because of the intimate and personal feel it provides.
Time: I prefer late morning, because that is when homes are usually lit up the best. It is best to keep baby awake for as long as possible and delay the feed until you arrive at the session. This means they will be nice and settled and ready to sleep in time for the photographs. Once baby is in a comfortable deep sleep I will begin posing and creating your gorgeous images.
Length Of Session: The session will last 2-3 hours. The reason for this is to allow time for tending to your baby's needs. Your baby will of course be leading the session! I will be handling your baby throughout the entire session. I need to be able to pose your baby and will do so with extreme care and caution. All babies are different and have different likes and dislikes. If you really want naked photos (tasteful, just tush showing) please be sure to let me know, otherwise I will follow whatever cues baby is giving me to keep him/her comfortable as most babies do prefer to be swaddled or partially covered. If there is anything specific you are looking for out of your session please be sure to let me know ahead of time. Your session will be a lovely combination of posed and lifestyle images.
What To Wear: Wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are. I do not recommend matching but rather coordinating. See my PINTEREST board for some what to wear guides that can give you an idea of what I am talking about. I am happy to consult you directly on wardrobe if you are interested. Just let me know.
Props: I do not use many props during my sessions, however if you have something in mind please let me know.
My Work Attire: I dress casual (usually vest top/leggings). I do not wish to appear unprofessional in my attire, however with this job comes with certain hazards...as in your baby might be naked throughout parts of the session - (no nappy!). Without a nappy the ‘mess’ has to go somewhere...I always hope it doesn’t land on me, but it’s sometimes hard to avoid! I am ok with that, so please never feel bad if your baby pees or poops on me or my props/blankets - it’s all washable and it’s why I do not wear designer clothes to newborn sessions.
After Your Session: Following the session, I will prepare the bespoke gallery for you of the final images. These images will have been lightly edited however once you have chosen your final images from the online gallery, I will fully edit the gallery. This includes, colour edits, skin retouching, exposure etc but not too much, we don't wan't to lose those gorgeous little features!
If you or a family member are ill, please re-schedule for a different day. It is important to protect all the young newborns from any contagious viruses. I will try to accommodate these needs as best as possible within my schedule. If I am ill, the same will apply. I do not want to spread any unnecessary germs to you and your family.
